WA Police Union are extremely disappointed and concerned regarding today’s announcement of Commissioner of Police Col Blanch’s significant pay rise, juxtaposed with the modest 3 percent increase granted to their hardworking members in the last Industrial Agreement.

This is a glaring discrepancy in compensation and raises serious questions about fairness and equity within the force. Our officers, who put their lives on the line daily to ensure the safety and security of our community, deserve better recognition for their tireless efforts.

President Paul Gale expects the same level of attention and consideration will be given to the remuneration of Police Officers in the upcoming Industrial Agreement negotiations.

“Giving our top cop an 8.5 per cent pay rise on top of the 3 per cent last June, not to mention a $3000 cost of living payment is a kick in the guts to our members.

“Our Police Officers are at breaking point and leaving the force at record rates. Attrition, retention, assaults, suicides, all of these prevalent issues within the force and to be greeted with a 3 per cent pay rise last year is simply disgusting and does not live up to a sliver of what our officers deserve. We are being pushed to do more with less. The hours our members are working to maintain service is unsustainable.

“It is imperative that their contributions, sacrifices, and the challenges they face in their line of duty are duly acknowledged and appropriately rewarded.

“We call upon the State Government and Commissioner of Police to address this disparity promptly and ensure that our Police Officers receive fair and just compensation in the next Industrial Agreement negotiations,” President Gale says.
